Farview Recording is not an inhuman entity. It is, rather, the heart and soul of its founder and chief engineer, Jay Walsh, and his co-owner and operations manager, Kristin Joy. Together they maintain principles that have made Farview Recording the premier recording studio, and creator of Rock Drums sample CDs, that it is known for.
First: “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you” Second: “Wish for others what you wish for yourself” Third: “As ye sow, so shall ye reap” Lastly (but certainly not least): “Harm none” Engineers and musicians the world round have sung the praises of Farview Recording and its Rock Drums sample CDs: from the major studio engineer to the small, independent engineer; from the major-label-signed musician to the not-yet-signed band and everyone in between receives the same courtesy and respect at Farview Recording. And all our clients give Farview Recording the thumbs up. Farview Recording is interested in your success, your highest good and your satisfaction, and we take your project personally.
His lifetime career in music and sound began, like countless other youngsters, when he watched KISS perform on the Paul Lynde Halloween special in 1976. From that moment on, Jay Walsh was determined to make music his whole life. Music sunk in its fangs and injected him with its magic potion. Already a member of the jazz band in Junior High, Jay continued to be tutored in guitar and drums through high school. Not yet sixteen years old, Jay joined a local rock band whose members were already quite experienced and in their 20’s. The band played out nearly every weekend, using its own PA system. Jay, even at such a young age, was made the person responsible for maintaining and setting up the PA. His live sound experience grew with leaps and bounds when his band’s PA system was often rented out to other bands, with the still-young Jay Walsh at the controls. Even then, he received compliments from others on his live sound skills. Jay’s experience with sound grew, evolved and developed through the years with every band he joined, like the outrageously popular Chicago-based band, Stonehenge. Jay contributed to and participated in the recording process and the mixing of Luther….Mass Hysteria at the awesome Zenith DB Studio in Chicago. Jay has been a member of various bands who have shared the stage with Pantera, Savatage, Trouble, Nuclear Assault, LA Guns, Helmet, Humble Pie, amongst others. Soon after his gig at Zenith, Jay partnered with a band mate to create a 16-track analog recording facility. He left that partnership in 1996 when he was asked to lend his expertise to equipping a new 32-track digital studio being built (Jem Music Complex) located just outside the city of Chicago. Jay hand-picked every piece of equipment and helped design the studio itself, in partnership with John Scrip (now owner of Massive Mastering). In 1997, when he was barely 32 years old, Jem Music Complex went up for sale, as the original owner decided to travel a different path in life. It was the opportunity of a lifetime, and Jay seized it. He bought Jem’s equipment, moved the business to the western suburbs of Chicago, and Farview Recording (named after the 110+ year old country estate on which the studio now resides) was born. Jay’s dream of owning his own studio - and doing things his way - was finally realized. Now, ten years and hundreds of very satisfied clients later, Jay continues to provide his clients with unparalleled, unequaled recording and mixing services. We are very proud that Jay Walsh is one of the very best that Chicagoland has to offer its artists and musicians.
